On 29th October 2008 the United Nations General Assembly, after hearing the report presented by Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, will vote the Cuba project which relates to the suspension of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on this Caribbean island by the US government since 1959.
This will be the seventeenth time that the UN will deal with this subject.

Die soziale Ungleichheit in den größten Städten Lateinamerikas hat das gleiche Niveau wie in 26 Städten Afrikas, melden brasilianische Medien unter Berufung auf einen neuen UNO-Bericht. Lateinamerika wird darin als Spitzenreiter der Ungleichheit bezeichnet – Brasilien und Kolumbien hätten die meisten Städte mit derartigen Kriterien.

Ever since the arrival of the Spaniards in the sixteenth century the peoples and the lands of the Bolivian Altiplano suffered exploitation exhaustively.  Towards the end of the century 80% of the silver of the Vice Royalty of Peru came from Potosi which produced 50% of the world™s silver. In 1610, Cerro Rico de Potosi had 180,000 inhabitants. It surpassed the populations of all Spanish cities and equaled London and Paris.
